South Africa, England, and India have already secured spots in the semi-finals of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The remaining Group 1 teams in the Super Eight stage are competing for the final semi-final position. The champion of the 2024 competition will be decided on June 29. Meanwhile, let’s look back at the previous ICC Men’s T20 World Cup winners from 2007 to 2022:
2007 – India
India, under MS Dhoni’s captaincy, won the inaugural T20 World Cup by defeating Pakistan in the final. India lost only one match in the tournament, against New Zealand in the Super 8s. Shahid Afridi from Pakistan was the player of the series.
2009 – Pakistan
Pakistan, after finishing as runners-up in 2007, won their first T20 World Cup in 2009 in England. They defeated Sri Lanka by 8 wickets in the final. Pakistan lost their first match against England and a Super 8 match against Sri Lanka but still clinched the trophy. Tillakaratne Dilshan from Sri Lanka was the player of the series and the top run-scorer.
2010 – England
England became the first non-Asian team to win the T20 World Cup in 2010. They beat Australia by 7 wickets in the final. England had lost their first game to the West Indies but won all subsequent matches to capture the trophy. Kevin Pietersen from England was the player of the series.
2012 – West Indies
West Indies won their first T20 World Cup in 2012, defeating hosts Sri Lanka by 36 runs in the final. Despite losing their first match to Australia, they emerged victorious in the tournament. Shane Watson from Australia was both the player of the series and the top run-scorer, while Ajantha Mendis from Sri Lanka was the highest wicket-taker.
2014 – Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka won the 2014 T20 World Cup by defeating India by 6 wickets in the final. This marked Sri Lanka’s first T20 World Cup win. Virat Kohli from India was the top run-scorer and player of the series.
2016 – West Indies

West Indies won their second T20 World Cup in 2016 by beating England in the final. They lost only one match in the tournament, against Afghanistan. Virat Kohli was the player of the series, and Tamim Iqbal was the highest run-scorer.
2021 – Australia
Australia won the T20 World Cup for the first time in 2021, defeating New Zealand by 8 wickets in the final. Mitchell Marsh was the player of the match in the final. The tournament featured 12 teams in the main event (Super 12), divided into two groups.
2022 – England

England won the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 by defeating Pakistan by 5 wickets in the final. Pakistan scored 137 runs, and England chased the target in 19 overs. Virat Kohli was the top run-scorer with 296 runs in 6 matches, while Wanindu Hasaranga from Sri Lanka was the highest wicket-taker with 15 wickets in 8 matches.
