Pakistani badminton player Mahoor Shahzad landed herself in hot waters after she unintentionally made racist comments.
Mahoor Shahzad, who is currently competing in the Olympics, recently made comments during a video: “There are some badminton players who are totally Pathans. I am number one in Pakistan, but our remaining Pakistani badminton players are very much jealous of my progress.” The short clip went viral and social media called out the athlete for her racist comment.

However, Mahoor Shahzad decided to apologise for her remarks and shared another message on social media and issued an apology for her statement made earlier.
Yesterday I apologised on my social media platforms formally as it was not possible to record a message.
Therefore, I recorded a video message as an apology to those who got hurt from my words.

According to her, a number of top-level badminton players encouraged negative content to be published against the contesting athlete. Mahoor Shahzad is the country’s first badminton player who featured in the Olympic Games. She was beaten in straight sets by a Japanese player in just 23 minutes.
