KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) issued a non-bailable arrest warrants against Federal Interior Secretary for failing to appear in the missing persons’ case.
A two-member bench comprising Justice KK Agha and Justice Abdul Mubeen Lakho heard petitions seeking recovery of missing persons. The court expressed displeasure over the non-appearance of the Interior Secretary Yousaf Naseem and the failure to recovery the missing persons.
The court issued non-bailable arrest warrant for the secretary for not appearing despite repeated summon and directed the IGP Islamabad Police to arrest him and produced before the court on May 27.
Justice KK Agha remarked that he had issued orders several times to trace the missing persons. He said the report of the detention centres has been presented by the federal secretary but have not he has not appeared himself.
He said that instead of presenting the Additional Secretary and the Joint Secretary of Home Affairs, e Deputy Secretary was being sent for appearances. The show cause notice issued by the court was also not answered, the judge said.
Justice KK Agha remarked that the federal Secretary was openly violating the order of the Sindh High Court, adding that it is the duty of all to protect the rights of citizens who have been missing for several years.
The court had sought a report from the interior secretary on the disappearance of the missing citizen Shamshad Ali who has been missing from Karachi since 2015.
