(AFP): Paris Saint-Germain forward Neymar has signed a four-year contract extension, keeping Brazil forward at the French giants until 30 June, 2025, the French champions announced.
“The truth is that I’m very happy to be staying here for four more years, to be a part of the club’s project, to try and win titles, to try and achieve our biggest dream which is the Champions League,” Neymar said in a statement.
The footballer said, “I have grown as a person here, as a human being and as a player, too. So I am very happy to extend my contract and I hope to win many more trophies here.”
Coach Mauricio Pochettino said in a press conference, “Everyone in the PSG family is happy that a player of Neymar’s talent has extended his contract.” Neymar joined PSG in 2017 from La Liga side Barcelona for a record transfer fee of €222 million ($270.02m).
Neymar has claimed three Ligue 1 titles and two French Cups with PSG, but the major honour that he was bought by the Qatari-owned club to win, the Champions League, continues to prove elusive.
He helped PSG to reach last season’s final where they were beaten by Bayern Munich but the club’s chances of reaching the final again were ended by Manchester City on Tuesday — and Neymar was ineffectual in the 2-0 semi-final second-leg defeat in England.
