ISLAMABAD: The villagers of Bhara Kahu Islamabad held a protest at the Kalma Chowk against the forcible occupation of their land, worth millions of rupees, by armed men of an influential landlord.
An influential Afghan resident, identified as Yar Mohammad has occupied the lands of the Forest Department and Capital Development Authority (CDA) under the alleged patronage of district police, according to protestors.
Protestors also claimed that an illegal housing society was also being constructed on the occupied land. The villagers said some armed men attacked them and forcibly occupied the agricultural land.
The villagers further said when they tried to lodge an FIR against the incident, the police refused. One of the protestors, Raja Mohammad Riaz, said they had purchased agricultural 70 kanal of land from the government’s concerned department.
He claimed that Superintendent of Police (SP) Umar Khan, Station House Officer (SHO) Bhara Kahu and Sub-Inspector Hanif were allegedly patronizing the land grabbers. “The police have so far registered seven fake cases against us,” he added.
Alleging continuous harassment not to press the charges and forego the land, they sought the help of Home Minister, IG, SSP Operations and DIG Operations to help them recover the land.
