OKARA: A man was arrested on Saturday for torturing three minors after a video of the incident went viral on the internet.
According to police, area residents shared this video with police claiming that the man, identified as Yaqoob, brutally thrashed the minors over a domestic dispute.
In the video, the suspect can be clearly seen tying the children and brutally thrashing them after they insisted to visited their mother. Later, he continued to physically assault the screaming minors with a shoe.
The incident took place in village 44-L in Okara. The suspect is said to be a close relative and was asked to look after the children. The mother of the children had left the house after a dispute with her husband.
However, District Police Officer (DPO) Okara Jehanzeb Khan took notice of the incident after the video went viral and ordered concerned officials to arrest the suspects. The suspect was promptly traced and a case has been registered against him.
“We have arrested this man soon after the footage was shared and the village residents claimed that the man, who happens to be the victims’ uncle, tortured them for throwing trash before his house,” said DPO Okara.
The police officer added that both the young boys will go through a medical examination to ascertain the degree of the torture.
Chief Minister Punjab Usman Buzdar also took notice of the incident and ordered Assistant Commissioner to visit the village and meet the victims.
Okara Deputy Commissioner Marriam Khan and Assistant Commissioner Omar Maqbool visited the victims and assured their family that the district administration is standing by their side.
The assistant commissioner met the two boys and also gave them gifts. They extended all possible support to the victims and their family.
