ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has contacted Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif and asked him to return to Pakistan.
According to reports, the PDM chief has made a telephonic conversation with Nawaz Sharif and advised him to return to the country amid a growing rift with the opposition. Both leaders exchanged views on the political situation and the decisions taken by the PDM in a meeting on Tuesday.
Maulana Fazlur Rehman complained over the difficulties in the implementation of PDM’s decisions as the PML-N leader was abroad. He added that the experience of Senate elections was also an outcome of it and the mutual trust was damaged by not voting for the JUI-F candidate.
Moreover, both leaders have also discussed the stance adopted by the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) which had refused to resign from parliament unless the PML-N leader returns to Pakistan.
The JUI-F chief reiterated that the decision for tendering resignations from assemblies has immense importance in the ongoing anti-government campaign. Sources said that Nawaz Sharif assured Maulana Fazlur Rehman of increased coordination in the way forward.
Earlier on Tuesday, PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari told the PDM leaders that his party’s lawmakers will not resign from assemblies at any cost. He demanded that Nawaz Sharif should return to the country for a decisive battle with the government.
Addressing a Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) meeting in Lahore through video link, the former president maintained that a last-resort option like mass resignations will only strengthen the PTI government.
He said that if Nawaz Sharif is serious in his battle for democracy, then he should fly back to the country. The statement is been seen as a rift within the alliance over the long march and the way forward.
