ISLAMABAD: Minister for Interior Sheikh Rashid Ahmed has informed that the Pak-Afghan border will remain open for six days a week and fencing will be completed there soon.
While responding to a Calling Attention Notice in the National Assembly regarding the hampering of economic as well social activities due to the closure of the Pakistan-Afghan border, he said steps were being adopted to amicably address the issues of the business community fencing along the Pak-Afghan border.
The minister said the issues of the border were thoroughly being reviewed, hence, in order to solve issues relating to settlement along with Pak-Afghan border authorities.
He informed that 82 percent of fencing on the Pak-Afghan border has been completed while fencing at the Iran border would be completed by July 2021.
The minister asked Speaker Asad Qaisar for ruling on the issue of opening of the border following which the Chair directed to open border six days a week.
Earlier, National Assembly (NA) Speaker Asad Qaisar had said that Pakistan had great wishes to develop vibrant relations with parliamentarians, people, and businessmen of Afghanistan.
Addressing the Pakistan-Afghanistan Trade and Investment Forum 2020, on Monday, the NA speaker said the government is taking more steps to increase the Pak-Afghan trade.
Promotion of trade and economic links between Pakistan and Afghanistan would usher in a new era of socio-economic development and help bring people of the two countries closer, he added.
