KARACHI: A female domestic maid who was allegedly involved in killing her employer in Sachal area of the city has escaped from police custody.
The woman was arrested under murder charges after she allegedly intentionally gave an overdose of medicine to her female landlord leading to her death. The woman was allegedly part of a gang involved in looting households disguised as domestic maids.
Shamim alias Rani was among three housemaids who had been arrested by the Sachal police on January 18 along with Zahida alias Asiya and Samina.
Police on Tuesday took her to Malir court to receive a remand and on return took her to a hospital for a COVID-19 test. On the way back from the hospital to the lockup, the woman jumped off from the police van near M.A. Jinnah Road and escaped.
Police have suspended two assistant sub-inspectors and a female constable over negligence. A case has also been registered at Arambagh police station as police search for the escaped suspect.
The station investigation officer of the Sachal police station, inspector Sher Muhammad Siyal, took notice of the incident and registered a case against Sub-Inspector Sardar Khan, mobile driver Ali Akbar and policewoman Maryam over negligence. They were dismissed from police service and arrested.
Police said Shamim used to commit burglaries houses after mixing toxic substance in the food of families where she and companions worked as housemaids. They said one of the female employers also died after consuming toxic biryani in the Sachal area recently.
