ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Saturday held a telephonic conversation.
During the conversion, PM Imran highlighted that given the strong bond between the two nations, the people of Pakistan share the pain of their Turkish brethren and stand by them, just as Turkey did during the 2005 earthquake in Pakistan.
He offered to provide all possible support and assistance to the Turkish people in this hour of grief. The two leaders also discussed the recent terrorist attack in Peshawar, Imran Khan stated that the cowardly terrorist attack was carried out by the enemies of Pakistan.
Nineteen people had been killed in Turkey and Greece after a strong earthquake struck the Aegean Sea on Friday, bringing buildings crashing down and setting off tidal waves that slammed into coastal areas and islands.
Both leaders also shared concerns about the rising Islamophobia in Europe. The PM reiterated that leaders of the Muslim world must take the lead in breaking this cycle of hate and extremism against Muslims.
The two leaders also agreed that their Foreign Ministers would meet and continue to engage in issues of mutual interest including efforts to address Islamophobia.
