Punjab govt to launch double-decker tour bus in Bahawalpur

ISLAMABAD: Punjab government will launch a double-decker bus service in Bahawalpur for tourists to visit the historical places in the city,

In a statement, Advisor to Punjab Chief Minister on Tourism Asif Mehmood said the move is part of the government’s effort to promote tourism in the country.

He said archeology and tourism departments are working together for the promotion of geographical beauty and civilization of the country.

Earlier this week, Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar has inaugurated Tourism Punjab App and DTS system App on World Tourism Day.

Buzdar said that complete information about 511 tourist spots was being provided through Punjab Tourism App. He said that citizens could get online information and services related to tourism through the app.

The app is also helpful for providing the route of the tourist destination. Citizens can benefit from the facilities being provided by Tourism Development Corporation Punjab and book hotels online.

Citizens can download this app from Google Play Store. DTS system app has introduced for tour operators. Tourist operators now can get online registration and their matters have been automated.

In August, Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar inaugurated the double-decker service to promote tourism in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the bus service, the chief minister said that the bus service would boost tourism. Buzdar said the Punjab government is taking measures to promote tourism in the province.

He said the Punjab tourism department is going to establish a tourism institute in Rawalpindi which would launch training programs for youngsters. He announced that children, elderly and special people would get special concessions for traveling in the bus service.

Buzdar further said the government wants to promote tourism across Punjab province and will make Bahawalpur to Attock and Koh-e-Sulaiman to Murree as a tourism hub. He had announced that new tourist spots would be created around lakes, forts and other places as the province has immense tourism potential.

He said the government would explore new tourist destinations in Jhelum and Chakwal. He added that tourism activity would also create new job opportunities in the region.

The Punjab Tourism Development Corporation Punjab (TDCP) will operate the buses. The main terminal in Islamabad has been set up at Allama Iqbal Park double road.
