DIR: Three policemen were injured when Haya Serai station’s mobile van was hit by an improvised explosive device in the Maidan area of Dir.
Police said the mobile van had been on a routine patrol while adding that three policemen, including the van driver Nazir, Hawaldar Tariq Munir and Constable Jan Bacha, sustained injuries.
The vehicle was also partially damaged. The injured men were taken to a nearby hospital where their condition was stated to be out of danger.
The incident caused fear and panic in the area police said. Shortly after the incident took place, law enforcement agencies personnel cordoned off the area and started a search operation.
This is the second attack against the police this month. On the night of August 11, a police post in Kumbar Maidan was attacked by unknown offenders.
Two policemen were injured in a grenade attack by unidentified motorcyclists near Mominabad police station in Karachi on August 31.
According to police sources, unidentified men riding a motorbike hurled a grenade on the gate of Mominabad police station. As a result, two cops sustained minor injuries.
The sources said the timely response by on-duty officials foiled the attack. The attackers, however, managed to flee from the scene.
Senior superintendent police (SSP) Fida Hussain said the police commenced a probe into the incident and identification of the attackers with the help of CCTV footage.
