Federal govt agrees to give 40pc gas revenue to Balochistan

ISLAMABAD: In a major development, the federal government has agreed to give 40 percent of gas revenue to the Balochistan government.

As per details, the province will get around Rs6 billion per annum as gas revenue after approving the proposal.

According to sources, Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) and Balochistan government will ink an agreement in this regard soon.

The provincial government will be given 40 percent of the profits of the gas produced from the Sui gas field.

Pakistan Petroleum Limited will also pay Rs 20 billion arrears to the Balochistan government after the accord, said the sources.

On April 26, the federal government had decided to revisit the National Finance Commission (NFC) award as well as the 18th amendment.

The federal government had contacted several political parties in this regard, who had assured support to the center for the changes in the NFC award and the 18th amendment.

Earlier, Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar had said some flaws had been noticed in the 18th Amendment.

Umar clarified the Centre doesn’t want to take back any powers from provinces neither it is the war of powers.

He said the Centre wants to work with provinces in coordination for the development of the country.

The minister said a secretariat of Council of Common Interests (CCI) was to be made after the 18th Amendment.
