PESHAWAR: Prime Minister Imran Khan today (Thursday) has launched a healthcare coverage for all the citizens of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa under a Sehat Sahulat programme.
Each family will receive health coverage of Rs10 million per year under the programme. Government-designated hospitals will provide free treatment to KP residents. State Life Insurance Corporation will be paid Rs2,849 per family annually.
Addressing the launching ceremony, PM Imran lauded the initiative taken by the KP government and said that the programme will put pressure on other provinces.
The Prime Minister informed that he will push the idea in Punjab as well and will also suggest the Balochistan government to launch a similar initiative. “Once the citizens of the three provinces have access to free healthcare, the people of Sindh will demand to introduce a similar programme,” he added.
He further said that the programme will also motivate public-sector hospitals to provide better medical facilities in order to compete with private hospitals, which will be offering free treatment under the Sehat Sahulat Programme.
The premier also urged the KP government to encourage the citizens of the province to get a health card so that the provincial health ministry can maintain a proper database and pilferage can be avoided.
