British Airways resumes flight operations to Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: British Airways has resumed flight operations to Pakistan after a decline in COVID-19 cases in the country.

As per details, after the outbreak of the COVID-19 in the country, the Pakistani government in March suspended all international flights to the country, only allowing them to restart on June 24.

According to the British airline, direct flights would take off three times a week between London’s Heathrow Airport and Islamabad International Airport.

British Airways flight BA-261 reached Islamabad from London on Friday. Special arrangements were made for the arrival of British Airways flight at Islamabad Airport while the passengers were subjected to health counter screening and medical examination.

In a tweet, the UK High Commission wished everyone on board a great flight. “Welcoming back @British_Airways to Pakistan! Keeping the [UK] and [Pakistan] — and our people — connected,” it added.

British Airways direct flights to Pakistan resumed in June 2019 after a 10-year break. The carrier first flew to Islamabad in 1976.

In September 2008, the airline had suspended operation in Pakistan following a suicide bombing at the Marriott Hotel in Islamabad, killing at least 60 people and wounding more than 260.

Earlier, The airlines had sought details of the arrangements before the resumption of the flight operation from Islamabad airport. The authorities have been asked to give details about cleanness arrangements at the airport and facilities available there to ensure the safe landing of its planes.
