KARACHI: Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KW&SB) officials and Sindh police claimed to have arrested 11 suspects for allegedly selling unhealthy and contaminated water through tankers to different areas of Karachi.
According to sources, KW&SB officials and Sindh police arrested the 11 accused for allegedly selling unhealthy and contaminated. The police also impounded 11 tankers from the accused, sources added.
Police have registered FIRs against the accused at the concerned police station on the complaint of Water Board officials. The accused were identified as Rashid, Mohammad Ayaz, Ayub, Qadir Khan, Sulaiman, Alamgir, Abdul Wahab and Liaquat and others.
Sources further said contaminated water is being supplied to the people of Karachi through illegal water tankers from Sakran (Hub) and district Thatta.
Earlier, KW&SB Managing Director Asadullah Khan had has written a letter to the Sindh inspector-general saying that unsafe water is being illegally transported and supplied to some areas of districts West and Central from Sakran in Hub and Gharo in Thatta.
“These illegal water tankers are entering Karachi via PS Manghopir, PS Mochko and PS Maymar,” he said. Khan requested the IG to stop this activity to save the lives of the people of Karachi.
Later, in a joint operation of Karachi police and the water board officials in the Manghopir area, they had impounded 25 tankers and registered cases against the accused.
A spokesman for the Water Board said that the action was taken on the order of Provincial Minister for Local Government Nasir Hussain Shah.
