PARIS: The total number of COVID-19 cases in the world has surged past 2.1 million today as the world continues to tackle the virus. The global death toll from the virus climbed over 145,000.
According to details, a total number of 2,159,267 declared cases have been registered in 200 countries since the epidemic first emerged in China last year in December. Of these cases, at least 547,000 are now considered recovered.
In the United States, nearly 674,585 cases were confirmed, including more than 34,458 deaths. Italy, which recorded its first coronavirus death at the end of February, has 21,645 fatalities while Spain has recorded 19,130 fatalities and 182,816 infections.
China has to date declared 3,342 deaths and 82,341 cases, with 77,892 recoveries. France has reported 1400 deaths in a single day, taking the tally to 17,920 deaths and 165,027 cases.
The United Kingdom has reported 861 deaths during the last 24 hours, 13,729 fatalities and 103,093 infections. The death toll is 4,869 in Iran as the confirmed number of cases is almost 77,995.
The total number of confirmed cases in India stands at 12759, the number of patients cured is 1515, and the death toll stands at 420.
Many countries have restricted flights from the most affected places and implemented lockdowns. Since first being recorded late last year in China, the COVID-19 coronavirus has spread around the world and been declared a pandemic by the World Health Organization.
