ISLAMABAD: The Lahore High Court has extended the hearing of plastic bags being used in Punjab till 6th March.
LHC Judge Justice Shahid Karim conducted the hearing in which he directed the Punjab government to seal shops and bakeries who were still using the plastic bags despite the government’s strict order.
The court earlier on 21st February, the LHC ordered all the stores across the province to stop using harmful plastic bags and bottles.
During the hearing, the judge in his remarks directed the shops and companies that produce plastic to switch from it to alternative bags within two weeks. A seven-day notice had also been given to the owners to implement the orders.
The judge further said that in the next phase the court would ban the use of plastic material in the restaurants and bakeries.
In this regard, the costumers have raised objections over banning the plastic> Earlier people staged a sit-in protest against the decision of the government to ban plastic shopping bags.
Plastic bags are used for containing goods such as foods, produce, powders, ice, magazines, chemicals, and waste. Every year, about 1 to 5 trillion plastic bags are used and discarded around the world.
Plastic bags do not only pollute our water but also our land. These bags are consumed by animals, just like in the ocean. Animals eat food wrappers, waste, and plastic bags leading to digestive problems that cause death.
