LOS ANGELES: South Korean social drama Parasite won the Oscar for best film and best director categories on Sunday, making history as the first non-English-language movie to win the highest award in the film industry.
In a historic win that reflected the effort of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to expand its voting ranks amid the outrage over Oscars, the South Korean film “Parasite” took the best picture of the first foreign-language film to do so and won three other trophies of Oscars awards on Sunday night.
