ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has suspended the membership of 318 members of the National Assembly and the Senate over non-submission of their assets’ details.
The suspension list issued by the ECP included the federal ministers for not submitting the details of the assets. Federal Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry, Religious Affairs Minister Noorul Haq Qadri and Farrukh Habib are also included in the list.
The ECP also suspended the membership of the Federal Minister for Climate Change Zartaj Gul, as well as Member of the National Assembly Aamir Liaquat Hussain.
The members whose membership has been suspended include Aamir Kayani, Raja Pervez Ashraf, and Burgess Tahir, while Law Minister Prabhu Naseem has been suspended from the Senate.
In addition, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) member in National Assembly Alamgir Khan and Member of Parliament Abdul Kadir Patel have also been suspended. Senator Certified Country membership has also been discontinued.
Members of the National Assembly, as well as members of the Provincial Assembly, have been suspended.
The members whose membership has been suspended include 12 from the Senate, 70 from the National Assembly and 115 from the Punjab Assembly. 40 members of Sindh Assembly, 60 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 21 members of the Balochistan Assembly were suspended.
According to a statement issued by the Election Commission, the members whose membership has been suspended will remain suspended until the members submit their details.
Members will not be allowed to attend a legislative or assembly meeting because of the suspension of membership. Restoration of membership will be possible only after submitting the details of the assets to the Assembly.
