The body of Sidra Arab, a young woman allegedly killed in a so-called ‘honor killing’ on the orders of a jirga in Rawalpindi’s Pirwadhai area, will be exhumed for postmortem today.
According to reports, Sidra was murdered after a jirga’s decision and secretly buried in a local graveyard. She was married to Zia-ur-Rehman, who registered an FIR on July 21. In his complaint, he stated that Sidra had left home on July 11, taking gold jewelry, Rs150,000 in cash, and other belongings with her.
According to the FIR, he later discovered she had married another man, Usman, despite being legally married to him. Police believe she was murdered on July 16 and buried the next day.
According to police officials, the exhumation will be conducted under the supervision of a magistrate, as directed by the court.
A medical board from Holy Family Hospital and forensic experts will collect samples during the process. After the postmortem, Sidra’s body will be reburied at the same site.
