The United Arab Emirates has officially implemented a visa waiver for holders of Pakistani diplomatic and official passports, the UAE Embassy in Islamabad confirmed on Sunday.
The waiver, effective from July 25, 2025, follows an agreement signed on June 25 during the 12th session of the Pakistan-UAE Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) in Abu Dhabi. According to Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, the agreement enables mutual visa exemption for diplomatic and official passport holders from both nations.
Ambassador Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Salim AlZaabi announced the activation of the waiver at all UAE airports, expressing satisfaction over the development. The recent JMC session also covered discussions on cooperation in trade, investment, food security, aviation, information technology, and energy, as reported by Pakistan’s state broadcaster.
The UAE remains one of Pakistan’s most critical economic partners, ranking third after China and the United States. In fiscal year 2023–24, bilateral trade reached approximately $10.9 billion, with imports from the UAE valued at $8 billion and exports from Pakistan at around $2.1 billion.
