In a harrowing case of domestic violence, a woman was brutally assaulted by her husband and father-in-law in Lahore’s Shafiqabad area after her family failed to meet repeated financial demands.
The victim, identified as Sana Javed, sustained severe injuries in the attack, prompting outrage on social media and swift action from the authorities.
According to police reports, the violent assault took place when Sana refused to comply with persistent pressure from her in-laws to extract money from her parents.
The refusal allegedly enraged her husband, Anwar Mahmood, and father-in-law, Ghulam Hussain, who then launched a vicious attack on her inside their home.
The assault included repeated punches and kicks, violent pulling of her hair, and slamming her head against a concrete wall, resulting in multiple deep wounds to her head and excessive bleeding. A disturbing video later surfaced on social media showing a visibly distressed Sana crying in pain and recounting the abuse she suffered.
In her police statement, Sana described how she had been under constant pressure to bring money from her family and was repeatedly abused whenever she resisted.
On the day of the incident, her refusal once again provoked her husband and father-in-law, leading to the brutal episode of violence.
The police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the accused individuals, based on a complaint filed by Sana’s uncle, Sohail. A formal investigation is underway to bring the perpetrators to justice.
This incident adds to the growing concern over domestic abuse cases in Pakistan, particularly those linked to dowry and monetary demands, despite existing laws against such practices.
Rights activists have called for stricter enforcement of protection laws and speedy trials in cases involving violence against women.
