Due to recent monsoon rains in the country, 5 more people have died in the last 24 hours, bringing the total death toll to 221, as reported by national media on Tuesday.
According to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), during the last 24 hours, 5 people died and 10 were injured due to the rains. Among the deceased are 2 men and 3 children.
NDMA’s report stated that so far, 221 people have died and 592 have been injured due to the rains, including 77 men, 40 women, and 104 children.
According to NDMA, Punjab has reported the highest number of deaths due to rain, with 135 fatalities and 470 injuries. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 40 people have died and 69 have been injured.
The report noted that in Sindh, 22 people have died and 40 have been injured due to the rains, while in Balochistan, 16 people have died. In Gilgit-Baltistan, 3 people have been injured, and in Azad Kashmir, 1 person has died and 6 have been injured. One person has also died in Islamabad due to the rains.
The majority of deaths were caused by house collapses, drowning, landslides, flash floods, electrocution, and lightning strikes. The NDMA report also stated that 25 houses collapsed in the past 24 hours due to the rains, and 5 livestock animals were killed. So far, 804 houses have been destroyed and 200 livestock animals have died due to the rains.
Punjab reported the highest number of partially damaged houses at 168. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 142 houses were partially and 78 were completely destroyed. In Sindh, 54 houses were partially and 33 completely destroyed. Similarly, in Balochistan, 56 houses were partially and 8 completely destroyed. In Gilgit-Baltistan, 71 houses were partially and 66 completely destroyed.
Additionally, in Azad Kashmir, 75 houses were partially and 17 completely destroyed. In Islamabad, 35 houses were partially and one was completely destroyed.
NDMA reported a flood situation in Babusar due to a cloudburst. Severe landslides and flash flooding occurred in a 7 to 8 km area around Babusar Top. Roads have been blocked at 14 to 15 locations. Tourists stranded at various places have been relocated to safe areas in Chilas.
