The newly constructed runway at Quetta International Airport in Pakistan has been awarded the most prestigious construction honor in the Asia-Pacific region.
At a special ceremony held in Islamabad, the project received the Asia-Pacific Engineering Excellence Award, which is regarded globally as a symbol of high standards in the engineering field.
A notable feature of this project is that it was carried out at a fully operational airport, meaning the modern runway was built without shutting down the airport for even a single day.
The total cost was approximately five billion rupees, and the runway is now considered one of the longest and strongest paved runways not only in Pakistan but in the entire region.
This award recognizes the excellent planning, exceptional skills, and high safety standards of the Government of Pakistan’s aviation-related institutions and the technical and consultancy teams that worked on the project.
The first successful flight on this new runway was conducted on May 31 of last year by a national airline flight arriving from Islamabad, serving as a practical demonstration of the project’s success.
This achievement is a source of pride for the people of Balochistan and demonstrates that with determination, skill, and integrity, world-class projects are entirely possible in Pakistan. This development will not only improve air travel but has also paved the way for Quetta to become a regional aviation hub.
