At least six people lost their lives and 20 others sustained injuries when a passenger bus overturned in Thatta district on Sunday, according to emergency rescue officials.
The vehicle was transporting a group of picnickers from Karachi to Keenjhar Lake when it overturned while navigating a sharp turn. The Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) reported that six passengers died on the spot, while several others were injured.
All the victims are residents of Karachi’s Orangi Town. A spokesperson for the Edhi Foundation confirmed that the deceased were being transported from Thatta to a morgue in Orangi Town.
In a separate incident the same day, another passenger bus traveling from Karachi to Mansehra overturned on the National Highway near the Tando Masti area of Khairpur district. Three people were killed, and more than 25 others were injured.
Police said the injured and deceased from the Khairpur accident were taken to the Gambat Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS). According to initial findings, speeding amid heavy rainfall was the likely cause of the crash.
Highway accidents involving passenger buses remain frequent across Pakistan, often attributed to overspeeding, driver negligence, poor weather conditions, and inadequate road safety measures.
