Due to the ongoing continuous rainfall in the twin cities, there has been a significant rise in the water level of Rawal Dam. During the monsoon season, an increase of up to 10 feet in the dam’s water level has been recorded, as reported by national media on Friday.
According to dam authorities, the total storage capacity of Rawal Dam is 1,752 feet, while the current water level has exceeded 1,747 feet. Authorities have stated that if the rains continue at this pace, the spillways of the dam may be opened to control the excess water and implement timely safety measures.
The Punjab Home Department has imposed Section 144 across the province under emergency measures. Under this, a complete ban has been imposed on bathing and boating without permission in streets, roads, open spaces, rivers, streams, dams, lakes, and canals. This order will remain in effect for 45 days.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has said, “Due to the extraordinary rains and flood situation, a rain emergency has been imposed in various areas.” The public is being warned through sirens and announcements, and full cooperation has been requested from the local administration.

It is worth mentioning that rainfall accompanied by thunder is expected to continue in various parts of the country today. Rain is forecasted in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, and Jhelum.
The Meteorological Department has also predicted rainfall in some areas of Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. In Punjab, rain is expected in Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Lahore, Sialkot, Sheikhupura, Sahiwal, Jhang, Faisalabad, Okara, Chiniot, Kasur, Sargodha, Khushab, Bahawalpur, and D.G. Khan.
In Sindh, rain is expected in Ghotki, Sukkur, Sanghar, Umerkot, Tharparkar, Badin, Sujawal, Karachi, Thatta, Mirpurkhas, Matiari, Larkana, Shikarpur, Naushahro Feroze, Shaheed Benazirabad, and Jacobabad.
