A Chinese company has surprised many by linking employee annual bonuses to physical activities such as running, walking, and other fitness efforts.
Located in China’s Guangdong province, “Pu Paper Company” has ditched traditional employee performance evaluation methods and introduced a unique system where bonuses are now determined more by running mileage than by office output.
The company’s chairman, Lin Zhiyong — a staunch advocate of fitness — wants his entire team to embrace a healthy lifestyle. He believes physical well-being not only enhances individual performance but also contributes positively to the overall workplace environment.
What Is the New Bonus Policy?
Employees who run or walk at least 62 miles (100 kilometers) per month are eligible for an annual bonus equivalent to 130% of their monthly salary.
Those who meet a target of 31 miles (50 kilometers) per month receive a bonus equal to their monthly salary.
Workers log their activity using a dedicated mobile app that closely tracks their daily steps, mileage, and physical routines.
Currently, over 100 employees are participating in the program. According to reports, this policy is not only fostering a healthier atmosphere but has also significantly boosted employee morale and productivity.
