The government has increased the prices of petroleum products, which is expected to result in a hike in transportation fares across the country. Citizens have expressed concerns over this development.
According to details, the Ministry of Finance has issued a notification regarding the increase in petroleum product prices. The price of petrol has been increased by Rs. 5.36 per liter, setting the new price at Rs. 272.15 per liter.
As per the notification, the price of high-speed diesel has been raised by Rs. 11.37, making the new price Rs. 284.35 per liter.
The new prices of petroleum products have come into effect from midnight tonight. According to sources, the price of kerosene oil has been reduced by Rs. 3.10 per liter, while light diesel oil has been reduced by Rs. 1.85 per liter.
On July 1st, the price of petrol was increased by Rs. 8.36 per liter, and high-speed diesel was made costlier by Rs. 10.39 per liter. The government had maintained the petroleum levy on petrol and high-speed diesel.
Meanwhile, citizens, fearful of a looming wave of inflation and a potential rise in transport fares, have called the increase in petroleum prices unacceptable and demanded that the government reverse the decision.
