The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has disqualified Jamshed Dasti from serving as a Member of the National Assembly (MNA) due to the submission of fraudulent educational degrees.
The decision, announced on Tuesday, follows a formal reference filed by the Speaker of the National Assembly, along with two separate petitions challenging the authenticity of Dasti’s academic records.
After conducting a thorough review, the ECP concluded that the degrees submitted by Dasti were indeed fabricated. Both petitions were accepted, leading to his disqualification as a legislator.
Dasti was elected from NA-175 (Muzaffargarh) in the most recent general elections. He faced legal proceedings under Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution, as well as Sections 4, 9, and 137 of the Elections Act, 2017. The petitions against him were filed by Ameer Akbar, Zulfiqar Dogar, and Sardar Faizul Hassan.
