Zarah Sultana has announced her resignation from the Labour Party after 14 years to co-found a new political party alongside Jeremy Corbyn.
The Coventry South MP, who lost the Labour whip last year after supporting efforts to abolish the two-child benefit cap, stated that the new party will be launched in collaboration with other independent MPs and activists. The initiative aims to provide a political alternative to what she described as a “broken” Westminster system.

In a statement shared on social media, Sultana accused the government of being “an active participant in genocide” in Gaza. She also cited escalating poverty, government policies on welfare, and the ongoing cost of living crisis as key motivations for creating the new party.
“Labour has entirely failed to deliver meaningful improvements to people’s lives,” she said. “Across the political spectrum—from Farage to Starmer—those who speak out against the genocide in Gaza are being vilified as extremists.”
She concluded, “The facts are undeniable: this government is complicit in genocide, and the British public stands in opposition.”
