President Zardari has confirmed Justice Sarfraz Dogar as Islamabad High Court’s senior-most judge following Supreme Court ruling. Justice Dogar is currently serving as the acting Chief Justice of the IHC.
The notification, issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice on June 27, follows the Supreme Court’s June 19 ruling which upheld the constitutional validity of the transfer of judges from three provincial high courts to the IHC. A five-member bench, led by Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar, had dismissed petitions filed by five IHC judges, the Karachi Bar Association, the IHC Bar Association, and others, affirming Justice Dogar’s continued appointment as acting chief justice.
The Court also cleared the transfers of Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro from the Sindh High Court, Justice Muhammad Asif from the Balochistan High Court, and Justice Dogar from the Lahore High Court, confirming all as permanent.
According to the Law Ministry’s updated seniority list for the IHC, Justice Kayani ranks second, followed by Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb and Justice Jahangiri in third and fourth positions. Justice Sattar holds the fifth spot, with Justice Ishaq and Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir ranked sixth and seventh, respectively.
The remaining judges are listed as follows: Justice Imtiaz (8th), Justice Khalid Hussain Soomro (9th), Justice Muhammad Azam Khan (10th), Justice Muhammad Asif (11th), and Justice Inaam Ameen Minhas (12th).
