A blunder has come to light in the official First Year Chemistry textbook issued by the Punjab Curriculum, Training, and Assessment Authority (PECTA), where a picture of Delhi’s iconic Red Fort has been published and labelled as Lahore’s Shahi Qila.
As per the details, the image appears in the chapter discussing environmental pollution and the effects of smog.
While the text aims to highlight the impact of smog on historical monuments, the photo used is not of Lahore’s Shahi Qila, but of India’s Red Fort, a prominent symbol of Delhi’s Mughal heritage.
The textbook in question is part of the official curriculum taught in government schools across Punjab. The image, incorrectly labeled as Lahore’s Shahi Qila but depicting Delhi’s Red Fort, has sparked strong reactions from educationists and academic circles. They have condemned the error and criticized the lack of proper historical and cultural verification.
So far, PECTA officials have not released any official explanation or apology for the blunder. However, Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has taken notice of the issue and ordered a formal inquiry. He stated that appropriate action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
