A massive fire that erupted early Sunday morning at a factory in Karachi’s Landhi Export Processing Zone remained partially uncontrolled more than 31 hours after it began, leaving at least five individuals injured.
According to the Fire Brigade, the blaze intensified rapidly due to the presence of chemical substances within the facility and was further fueled by strong winds. The fire subsequently spread to a neighboring garment warehouse and a plastic manufacturing unit.
Hassan Khan, spokesperson for Rescue 1122, reported that while the fire had been “largely brought under control,” complete extinguishment and the cooling process would require additional time.
“Flames are still active in the affected factories, and the operation to fully contain the fire is ongoing,” he said.
Rescue teams have remained on-site throughout, including during the third day of Eid, and continue to work to douse the remaining flames.
The fire also caused the partial collapse of a factory structure, resulting in injuries to five individuals. The injured were identified as 45-year-old Aslam, 30-year-old Hamza, 20-year-old Ayaz, 43-year-old Sajid Mahmood, and 53-year-old Mohsin. All were transported to Civil Hospital for medical treatment.
