In a press conference held in Islamabad, Inspector General of Police (IG) Ali Nasir Rizvi provided an in-depth briefing on the tragic murder of Sana Yousuf, shedding light on the background of the accused and the extensive efforts made by law enforcement to bring him to justice.
According to IG Rizvi, the accused, identified as Omar Hayat, had repeatedly attempted to form a personal relationship with Sana Yousuf.
However, after being consistently rejected, he resorted to a horrifying and extreme act. The IG confirmed that the young woman had clearly and firmly denied his proposals, and this repeated rejection reportedly pushed Omar to commit the brutal crime.
The accused, as per the IG’s statement, holds a matriculation-level education. His father is a retired government employee who had served in a Grade-16 position. IG Rizvi condemned the murder as a deeply sorrowful incident, describing it as not only a personal tragedy but a matter of grave concern for the entire community. “The murder of any daughter in such a brutal manner is not just a crime—it’s a test for our police force,” he said.
The tragic incident took place on June 2 at around 5 PM. Sana Yousuf was shot five times inside her residence, an act that sent shockwaves across the city. Taking immediate and serious notice, the Islamabad Police initiated a full-scale investigation, treating the case with the utmost professionalism and urgency.
In order to ensure a thorough probe, the police formed seven specialized teams, each tasked with different aspects of the investigation.
The scale of the inquiry was significant: officers reviewed footage from 113 CCTV cameras across the surrounding areas, analyzed over 300 mobile phone calls, and examined various digital footprints, including social media interactions, to gather vital clues about the suspect’s movements and intentions.
To track down the accused, law enforcement conducted a total of 11 raids across multiple cities. These included three operations within Islamabad, two in Faisalabad, and another in Jaranwala.
The collaborative and relentless efforts of the investigation teams reflect the department’s commitment to swiftly resolving the case and ensuring justice for the victim and her family.
IG Ali Nasir Rizvi emphasized that such heinous acts of violence, particularly against women, will not be tolerated under any circumstances. He assured the public that the Islamabad Police would continue to pursue the case with full determination until the accused is brought to justice and all legal proceedings are completed.
