The U.S. State Department has announced visa bans on owners, executives, and senior officials of Indian travel agencies accused of deliberately facilitating illegal immigration to the United States.
While the statement, issued Monday by spokesperson Tammy Bruce, did not disclose specific names or agencies, it emphasized the seriousness of the violations.
According to the State Department, its Consular Affairs and Diplomatic Security Service in India identified individuals allegedly involved in human smuggling and trafficking operations. The agency warned that such visa restrictions would continue as part of broader efforts to dismantle networks aiding unlawful migration.
The visa ban extends even to individuals who would otherwise qualify for entry under the Visa Waiver Program, which permits travel to the U.S. for up to 90 days without a visa for certain nationalities.
“Enforcing U.S. immigration laws and policies is critical to upholding the rule of law and protecting Americans,” Bruce said.
This move is part of the Biden administration’s intensified immigration enforcement efforts, which have included widespread deportations, in some cases overriding court orders. The action underscores a broader crackdown on international networks allegedly involved in exploiting immigration systems, with a clear message that facilitators of illegal migration will face firm consequences.
