The Sindh Education Department has officially announced that summer vacations for all public and private schools will commence on June 1, 2025, and continue through July 31. This declaration puts to rest widespread speculation about an earlier start to the holidays due to the persistent heatwave conditions affecting the province.
Meteorological experts have forecasted an intense summer season, with temperatures expected to range between 40 to 45 degrees Celsius in many cities across Pakistan. Moreover, nighttime temperatures have remained unusually high, deviating significantly from historical monthly averages recorded last year.
In response to the extreme weather, the Sindh government has established hundreds of heat relief camps throughout the province. These facilities are equipped with shaded rest areas, cold drinking water, and essential first aid services to provide immediate respite to the public.
Chief Secretary Sindh, Asif Haider Shah, has instructed all relevant departments to ensure swift and effective relief measures, emphasizing particular attention to vulnerable populations such as the elderly, children, and individuals engaged in outdoor labor.
Furthermore, the provincial health department has been directed to activate heatwave prevention units in all government hospitals. These centers are to be fully staffed and stocked with necessary medical supplies to manage cases of heatstroke and heat exhaustion. A spokesperson for the Chief Secretary confirmed that Rescue 1122 services, municipal bodies, and district health teams have been placed on high alert to ensure a coordinated emergency response across Sindh.
