Five people, including two schoolgirls, were killed after a dumper crashed into multiple vehicles on Lahore’s GT Road near the Akhri Minute Stop on Wednesday.
According to Rescue 1122 officials, the truck veered out of control and collided with three rickshaws and two motorcycles, unleashing chaos on the busy roadway. Eyewitnesses said that the truck appeared to suffer from brake failure before barreling into the other vehicles.
Emergency response teams arrived swiftly at the scene and initiated a rescue operation. Four individuals were discovered trapped beneath the heavy vehicle. They were successfully extricated and provided with immediate medical assistance before being transported to Services Hospital and Shalimar Hospital.
The deceased have been identified as 12-year-old Aima and 10-year-old Hafsa, both schoolgirls, along with 45-year-old Rafiqat and 41-year-old Dawood. One victim remains unidentified at this time.
Among the injured were 26-year-old Ali, 10-year-old Afnan, 10-year-old Bilal, and 18-year-old Komal. They were shifted to Services Hospital and a nearby private facility for further treatment.
An investigation into the cause of the crash is underway.
