The Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has rejected the Federal Government’s 2025 Tax Ordinance Amendment, calling it unconstitutional and damaging to business confidence.
KCCI President Javed Balwani criticized the move, stating that the Presidential Ordinance bypasses both Parliament and the judiciary, and that immediate tax recovery despite court orders is unacceptable.
He further asserted that the placement of tax officers within business premises amounts to harassment, describing the ordinance as a violation of constitutional norms and judicial authority.
Calling for the immediate withdrawal of the ordinance, Balwani said that the amendments to the Federal Excise Act appear to be made in bad faith, and urged the government to engage in urgent parliamentary dialogue with relevant stakeholders on the matter.
