The University of London has conferred an honorary degree upon Justice Ayesha A. Malik of Pakistan’s Supreme Court in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the field of law and her historic appointment as the first female judge of Pakistan’s highest judicial forum.
The degree was presented by Princess Anne, Chancellor of the University of London, during a formal ceremony held at the renowned Barbican Centre. Justice Malik’s recognition highlights her major impact on legal jurisprudence in Pakistan and her role as a trailblazer for women in the judiciary.
Justice Malik made history in 2022 when she took the oath as the first woman to serve on the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Prior to this, she held the position of Justice at the Lahore High Court, where she served with distinction since March 2012.
The honorary degree ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including the University of London’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Wendy Thomson, Dean of Undergraduate Laws Patricia McKellar, and Saad Wasim, Regional Head for South Asia.
A graduate of Harvard Law School, Justice Malik brings over 28 years of experience to the legal profession and is widely respected for her judicial acumen and landmark rulings.
