Christians in Pakistan and around the globe are celebrating Easter today. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended his heartfelt greetings to the Christian community on the occasion, as reported by national media.
According to a report, Shehbaz Sharif stated that Easter is a symbol of renewal and hope and that the message of Jesus Christ (peace be upon him) is a source of mercy, humility, and love.
The Christian community in Pakistan is marking the day with religious zeal, devotion, and reverence. Across the country, churches are holding worship services from 9am to 12pm, under heightened security measures. Walk-through gates and CCTV cameras have been installed at all church entrances to ensure the safety of worshippers.
Prime Minister Sharif also paid tribute to the vital role played by the Christian community in Pakistan’s development and progress. He acknowledged their hard work, honesty, and dedicated service as a valuable asset to the nation, expressing confidence that the community will continue contributing towards a peaceful and prosperous Pakistan.
Easter Eve on Saturday night saw bustling activity in preparation for the celebration. Christian families flocked to shopping centers in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and other cities. Commercial areas such as Saddar, Gakkhar Plaza, Murree Road, Moti Bazaar, Raja Bazaar, Tench Bhatta Bazaar, Commercial Market, Aabpara, Super Market, Jinnah Super, and Karachi Company were packed with shoppers until late at night, as people—especially children—bought clothes, shoes, and artificial jewelry.
To add to the festivities, recreational parks have been scheduled to remain open from 9am to 1am on both Easter Sunday and Monday. Special arrangements have been made for family-friendly activities, including dodging cars, horse riding, boating on city lakes, and chairlift rides at Patriata.
Christian leaders Rashid Chauhan and Pastor Asif expressed satisfaction over the security arrangements and said the community will continue to fully cooperate with local authorities and police during the celebrations.
