Pakistan International Airlines (PIA), the nation’s flagship carrier, has announced the commencement of direct flights to Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, starting April 20.
The announcement was made during a special ceremony held in Karachi, where travel agents and tour operators were introduced to the new route.
According to PIA, two weekly flights will operate from Lahore to Baku, departing on Sundays and Wednesdays.
PIA expressed its commitment to strengthening ties between Pakistan and Azerbaijan through the direct flight service. The airline highlighted the potential of the new route to bolster tourism and trade while emphasizing its plans to establish a strong foothold in the Central Asian market.
This development comes as the government pursues the privatization of PIA under a $7 billion International Monetary Fund (IMF) program designed to reform state-owned enterprises and stabilize the national economy.
