ISLAMABAD: Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asif Ghafoor has said that Pakistan will only play the role of a peacemaker and not take support in the current conflict between the United States and Iran.
The DG ISPR during talking to a private news channel on Sunday said that Pakistan has conquered terrorism in its region and will not take part against any other country.
Terming a mendacious claim made in Indian media that Pakistan’s policy towards Iran; the DG ISPR deemed it Indian propaganda and baseless news.
He said connecting it as Pakistan aligning with the US is Indian misinformation. However, Pakistan and Washington were in discussion for about half in year over the matter, DG ISPR said.
Major General Asif Ghafoor said the Army chief General Qamar Bajwa told US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo that “the region is making progress towards serenity from various bad circumstances and the Baghdad incident is damaging to the peace efforts in the region”.
“General Bajwa has a vital role with regards to regional security and Afghan peace process and Pakistan don’t want to see another divergence in this region,” the DG ISPR mentioned.
He said Pakistan has supported the reconciliation process with Afghanistan and will oppose elements that affecting the process.
Director-General Inter-Services Public Relations’ observations came after the killing of top Iranian commander Qassem Soleimani by a US drone strike in Baghdad.
