The boring carried out six days ago in Karachi’s Korangi Creek has turned into a disaster, as the fire that suddenly erupted in the pit has still not been extinguished as of Thursday (today).
According to a report, the fire in the pit continues to burn even after six days. The fire in a plot at Korangi Creek is still raging with the same intensity. According to the district administration, the plot has been sealed, while fire tenders from KMC and the Cantonment Board are actively working to put out the flames.
Fire tenders are present at the site. The district administration stated that due to the intensity of the fire, extinguishing efforts faced difficulties, and because of the heat, the firefighting operation was postponed until Saturday. The fire broke out after boring up to 1,200 feet. Given the severity of the incident, samples of sand and water have been collected from the site.
Officials have stated that after the chemical analysis of the samples, the nature and volume of potential gas reserves can be determined. If the gas reserve is small, the fire will extinguish itself in a few days. However, if the reserve is large, measures will need to be taken to secure it.
