Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif launched the 8070 Ramadan Relief Package 2025 to support low-income families in Pakistan.  The initiative is worth Rs20 billion and aims to provide financial aid and essential food subsidies.

According to national media, the package is intended to ease the financial burden on families ahead of the holy month of Ramzan. The package consists of two main components including direct cash assistance and ration subsidies on essential food items.

Cash assistance: Each eligible family will receive Rs10,000 in direct financial aid.

Ration subsidy: Discounts will be provided on flour, sugar, pulses, ghee, and rice to ensure affordability.

Eligibility criteria

Beneficiaries must be registered under the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) or the Ehsaas Programme.
Applicants must not be receiving aid from any other government relief program.
A valid Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) is required for eligibility.

Registration process

Individuals can register through the official PSER portal by submitting their CNIC and mobile number.
Registration is also possible via SMS by sending the CNIC number to 8070.
After verification, eligible families will receive further instructions on fund disbursement.

Disbursement of funds

The government has introduced multiple disbursement channels to ensure smooth distribution.

Bank transfers:

Aid will be directly deposited into accounts in HBL, UBL, and Bank Alfalah.

Mobile wallets:

Beneficiaries can access funds via Easypaisa and JazzCash.

Ehsaas Program Centers:

Those without bank accounts can collect aid from designated centers.

Union Council Offices:

Local government offices will facilitate final verification and fund collection.

Government’s appeal and deadline
The government has urged eligible families to register early to avoid delays.
The registration deadline is approaching, so beneficiaries are encouraged to apply as soon as possible.

Prime Minister’s Office statement

The Prime Minister’s Office stated that the relief package is designed to help struggling families afford essential food supplies. Citizens can visit the official 8070 web portal or send their CNIC number to 8070 for quick eligibility verification.

Shehbaz Sharif’s speech

PM Shehbaz Sharif officially launched the package in the federal capital.
He announced that four million families (20 million people) would receive Rs5,000 per household through a digital wallet. The government allocated Rs20 billion for the package to ensure smooth implementation.
He expressed gratitude, saying, “This year, inflation during Ramadan is lower compared to previous years.”

Digital distribution system

The government aims to replace long queues at Utility Stores with a streamlined digital system.
The use of bank transfers and mobile wallets will ensure greater transparency and efficiency.

The impact

The relief package is expected to provide much-needed support to struggling households.
The subsidized ration program ensures that essential food items remain affordable during Ramadan.
The initiative is part of the government’s broader efforts to support vulnerable citizens through digital financial inclusion.
