England and Australia began their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign on Saturday at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. Before the start of the match, as per the tradition, the national anthem of both countries had to be played, however, due to a technical error the Indian national anthem was played instead of the UK anthem.
The English players, especially Ben Stokes, were surprised by this unexpected situation. Immediately realizing the mistake, the organizers stopped the Indian anthem and played the English national anthem.
This incident occurred when Australian captain Steve Smith had won the toss and decided to field first. He said that this decision was made due to dew falling during the night. On the other hand, England captain Jos Buttler said that they would try to give Australia a big target.
The tournament is being hosted by Pakistan from February 19 to March 9, which is the first ICC event in Pakistan since 1996.
The tournament matches are being played in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi, while the Indian team is playing its matches in Dubai.
In today’s match, the teams of Australia and England are in action at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.
Following the incident, the organizers have assured that all necessary steps have been taken to avoid such incidents in the future.
