The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has drastically reduced the issuance of work visas to Pakistani nationals by 150 percent, as revealed by officials from the Overseas Employment Promoters.
These shocking statistics were presented in the Senate Standing Committee, highlighting the significant decline in work visa approvals.
This reduction is expected to put a strain on Pakistan’s economy, particularly as the Gulf nation contributes approximately $4 billion in annual remittances.
The decline in work visas is being attributed to multiple factors, including violations of laws, other regulatory breaches, and reports of Pakistani nationals engaging in begging upon arrival in cities like Dubai.
While both sides have engaged in discussions to address the issue, no substantial changes have been made. In response, the Senate Committee plans to urge Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and other key officials to approach the UAE authorities with a request to increase the issuance of work visas.
