Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif announced on Sunday that the provincial government will launch an e-taxi service across Punjab, modeled after China’s successful taxi system. She has tasked Provincial Minister for Transport Bilal Akbar Khan with overseeing the implementation of the service.
The Punjab Transport Department has already begun preparations for the project, and Minister Khan has held several discussions with electric vehicle manufacturers to explore the best options for the service. Companies such as Deewan Group and the National Radio & Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC) have expressed interest in collaborating on the initiative.
The e-taxi service will be available around the clock in all major cities of the province. In the first phase, the service will be introduced in Lahore and divisional headquarters. This initiative aims to provide affordable and eco-friendly transportation to citizens.
While the introduction of e-taxis may lead to some reduction in traditional employment, it is expected to benefit the public by offering a more economical and environmentally friendly travel option.
