The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) plans to introduce 5G internet services in the country by April 2025.
Efforts are underway to expand the telecom market and enhance services for users, according to media reports citing sources within the PTA’s local chapter.
They mentioned that the restoration of the submarine cable is currently in progress and is expected to be completed by August 27, 2025. Despite the upgrades, no further service disruptions are anticipated, and customers can expect improved services.
In the meantime, the PTA has awarded a letter of intent to National Economic Research Associates (NERA) to oversee the 5G spectrum auction. NERA, a US-based consultancy, specializes in telecom and government sector modeling.
The Standing Committee on Information Technology & Telecommunications recently announced that the 5G spectrum auction is being considered and is expected to take place in March 2025. The committee emphasized the importance of service providers ensuring high-quality 5G services in major cities following the auction.
