ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has approved the review petition of government over the case related to an extension of the service of Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa.
The review petition which was filed earlier has been allotted number for an initial hearing. However, it will be heard as per the directives of the Chief Justice of Pakistan.
In the plea, the petitioner has requested the court to nullify the given judgment in the case. It has further requested the court to conduct in-camera hearings of the matter.
The Supreme Court, earlier in November, granted COAS General Qamar Javed Bajwa an extension in his service for six months.

The attorney general informed the court that General Qamar Bajwa has been reappointed under Article 243, to which the CJP remarked that you have to convince us this was legal.
Furthermore, the court has sought an undertaking from the government that it would legislate on the matter within six months.
General Bajwa took command of the Pakistan Army on 29th November 2016 as the 16th Chief of Army Staff when the country had been fighting a fierce war against terror, and faced internal and external challenges.
